National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Please note that the NBASW office will be closed September 30th in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to honour the Survivors of the residential school system, their families, and communities, and to commemorate the history and legacy of the residential schools.
Social workers have a long and complex history with Indigenous Peoples and communities. The TRC’s Calls to Action calls on social workers to be “properly educated and trained about the history and impacts of residential schools.” This is vital for insuring competency in social work practice.
On September 30th, NBASW staff will take the day to participate in training and commemoration to honour the Survivors, their families, and their communities. Over the course of the day, the NBASW will also share on social media a variety of resources and educational material to assist others in this opportunity to learn and grow.
