The New Brunswick Association of Social Workers (NBASW) is pleased to announce the launch of its Child Protection Public Campaign during National Social Work Month. 

Over the past 12 months, NBASW has collaborated with the Department of Social Development and Union CUPE 1418 to create a campaign that will shine a light on child protection social worker's positive impacts in New Brunswick.

When people think of frontline heroes, they often envision firefighters, nurses, and police officers. Unfortunately, child protection social workers remain overlooked and undervalued despite their profound impact on the lives of children and families. This campaign aims to challenge these misconceptions, reminding people that child protection social workers may not receive the same visibility, but their work is equally lifesaving and important.

In recent years, the child protection social work image has been molded by negative stigmas portrayed in media resulting in a harmful perception of the important work child protection social workers do daily. To inform the public of the immensely positive effects of child protection social work, we asked 10 New Brunswickers to partake in a social experiment. The experiment consisted of listening to a quote from a child’s real story and matching it to the person who saved them. From a selection of a firefighter, a police officer, a paramedic, a surgeon, and a social worker, no one selected the social worker for any of the five quotes.
