Become a Social Work Technician

This application process applies to those who:
- Have successfully completed the following recognized social work technician program:
OR
- Are currently registered as a social work technician equivalent in another jurisdiction in Canada (Ex: Social Service Worker with OCSWSSW)
If the above does not apply to you, you may be eligible for the Social Work Technician Equivalency application process instead.
Note on timeframe
The NBASW aims to review applications on a weekly basis. You will be contacted by the NBASW once all required application documents have been received, and a decision on your application has been made.

To apply to become a social work technician in New Brunswick:

The $100.00 non-refundable application fee can be paid by:
- credit or debit HERE (Indicate Association number 7, Registration number 12345)

TWO REFERENCE FORMS
Two Reference Forms must be submitted directly from the referees to the NBASW. At least one reference form must be provided by a field placement supervisor for recent graduates. Please review the Reference Form Policy before choosing your referees.

PROOF OF COMPLETION OF A RECOGNIZED SOCIAL WORK TECHNICIAN PROGRAM
Required if the applicant has not been previously registered with NBASW.
Submit proof of completion, which can include either:
- An official transcript which must be submitted directly from the educational institution to the NBASW following convocation; or
- In the case of applicants who have completed all the requirements of a recognized social work technician program but are awaiting their diploma must ensure:
- A Certification of Completion is submitted directly from the Educational institution.
- Transcripts received before convocation will not be valid.

VERIFICATION OF REGISTRATION
Required if the applicant is currently or has been fully registered with a Canadian social work regulatory as a paraprofessional. Complete one form for each applicable jurisdiction.

NOTICE OF THE DECISION
Once all applicable application documents have been received, the application will be reviewed. The NBASW aims to review applications weekly. A notice of the decision will be sent to the applicant by email which will outline any conditions of approval that apply, or actions required.
PAYMENT OF MEMBERSHIP DUES
Upon approval of the application and fulfillment of conditions that may apply, the NBASW will request the full payment of dues applicable. Once all outstanding items have been received, the registration will be processed, and the successful applicant will be sent the official member card by email.
2024-2025 MEMBERSHIP DUES
Dues will only be requested upon application approval and will be required in full to receive NBASW membership.
- Practicing Member: $409
- Practicing Member: Pro-rated
*applies to recent graduates from current fiscal year (April – March)
- Practicing Member: $204.50
*for applicants who begin registration after September 30th
- Non-Practicing Member: $120
- Temporary Authorized Member: Pro-rated
*for applicants seeking membership for special purpose and limited time
Prorated - The annual membership fee for applicants who register as Temporary Authorized Member, or within the fiscal year following their recognized social work technician program graduation is calculated on a prorated basis. The NBASW fiscal year runs April 1st to March 31st each year. To begin membership in the following months, the applicable prorated dues are as follows:
